REMOTE TUNING — HOW IT WORKS
HP Tuners · GM vehicles · nationwide
The short version: you read the vehicle with your own HP Tuners
interface and send us the file. We build your calibration and send it back — most first files
within one business day. You flash it, drive it, log it, and we revise until it's right.
What you need
- A Windows laptop with HP Tuners VCM Suite installed (free download from hptuners.com — reading your vehicle costs nothing).
- An HP Tuners MPVI interface (MPVI2, MPVI2+, MPVI3, or MPVI4) registered to your own VCM account.
- Vehicle licensing on your account. Depending on year and module, your vehicle may need HP Tuners credits or unlock service. After we see your intake, we'll tell you exactly what your vehicle needs — you purchase that directly from HP Tuners on your account, so your license stays yours.
- A healthy battery or a battery maintainer. Flashing a control module with weak voltage is how modules get bricked.
The process
- Request a quote. Fill out the intake form — year, engine, transmission, mods, and fuel. You'll get back a quote plus exactly what licensing your vehicle needs on your HP Tuners account.
- Read your vehicle. Using VCM Editor, read the module(s) we ask for and save the stock file. We'll send simple step-by-step instructions with your quote — the read takes a few minutes in your driveway.
- Payment. Remote work is paid in full up front; tune files are delivered after payment clears.
- We build your calibration. Custom work on your actual file for your actual combination — not a canned file. Most first files are back within one business day of receiving your stock read.
- Flash and drive. Write the file with VCM Editor following the instructions we send. Keep the vehicle's voltage stable during the write and don't interrupt it.
- Datalog. We send a VCM Scanner logging configuration with your file. Log the driving conditions we ask for and email the logs back.
- Revisions. We read your logs, revise the calibration, and send the next file — repeat until it drives the way it should. Revision support is included for the combination you described at intake — no revision limit and no expiry; turnaround depends mostly on how quickly logs come back. If the hardware changes after your tune — camshaft, injectors, pulley or turbo, boost target, gearing — that's a new calibration and we'll quote it.
Ground rules that keep your engine alive
- Run the fuel the tune was built for. A file built for 93 octane or E85 is not safe on anything less. If you want flex-fuel, the vehicle needs a working ethanol content sensor.
- Fix mechanical problems first. Calibration is not a repair. Misfires, fuel delivery problems, and vacuum leaks have to be resolved before the tune — see the pre-tune checklist.
- Tell us everything about the combination. Undisclosed mods make bad tunes. Injectors, cam specs, pulley sizes, gear changes — all of it matters.
