It determines whether your engine controller needs an HP Tuners unlock service before calibration can begin. A vehicle that's only had a handheld programmer (Range, Hypertech, Pulsar) is typically not unlocked and may require that service. A vehicle that's been tuned with HP Tuners custom software is usually already unlocked — which saves time and cost. We're not judging the previous work — we just need to know what we're working with to quote you accurately.
A canned tune is a generic file written for a vehicle like yours — not yours specifically. A real calibration logs your actual vehicle, adjusts the tables for your exact combination, and includes revision support until it's right.
Most first revisions are back within one business day of receiving your stock file. In-person drop-off sessions are typically 4-5 hours. Remote work depends on how quickly logs are returned.
